40 books I read (and recommend that you read) this year

books I've read in 2016

I am a believer in building a diverse skillset in life, and part of that process is consistent self-education. 2016 was a crazy, busy year, but I still managed to carve out time to feed my brain and soul through books (mostly at the expense of zombie and football tv time).

It was worth it.

Let me repeat that for emphasis: Every moment spent away from the TV (or game console) and in front of these books was worth it.

So I’d like to share my past year’s reading list and encourage a little bit more reading in the world as we move into 2017.

What does your bookshelf say about you? That is in interesting question recently posed in The Guardian. That got me thinking about my collection. Could you make an accurate judgement about who I am as a person by viewing my collection of stories, biographies and visual scrapbooks? My, wouldn’t that be a cool application to create? Writing about Writing. Oh, and someday I’ll start writing.

On Writing by Stephen KingI got it in my head sometime last year that I wanted to start writing fiction. Becoming a storyteller—It’s my new obsession. I have noticed a pattern in most all of my life’s obsessions. It starts with a vague idea that I could do something—a skill, a sport, a job, anything. Often, it is something I’ve never tried before and there is no logical reasoning for my new compulsion. It comes from nowhere. I just start getting the urge. TO DO IT.
